Relaxed

[Note: this is the ‘relaxed’ walkthrough. All actions are in some way chronological, at least you get the clues before you perform the action. It’ll give you 23 bonus points over 366 moves.  Once you’ve done this and know the environment and object of the game you can go for the ‘speed’ version below, which earns you 50 extra points.]

You’re in a ghost town, standing in front of a barber shop and a jail. ENTER BARBER  to find a hat. Once you SHAKE HAT, a tiny key falls out. TAKE KEY and GO SOUTH to leave the shop again. Once outside DROP KEY since you don’t need it yet.

GO WEST into the street to the saloon. ENTER SALOON and find a bell. You can ring the bell but nothing will happen so TAKE BELL and GO SOUTH to the street again. ENTER STORE to find more items. READ SIGN to see your objective and TAKE MATCHES and TAKE SHOVEL, then GO NORTH to leave the store.

In the street GO WEST once more to reach a hotel. ENTER HOTEL and GO EAST into an empty room. DROP BELL and GO WEST back to the lobby. From here GO NORTH into the street. ENTER OFFICE where you’ll find a telegraph key and a safe. MOVE SAFE to discover 2 loose wires. CONNECT WIRES and the telegraph will be operational.

GO SOUTH back into the street. Walk up and down until you hear the bell. Go down to the saloon and ENTER SALOON. There will be a pianoplayer APPLAUD and the player will bow and vanish, leaving behind the piano. OPEN PIANO and you’ll find a map. TAKE MAP and READ MAP to read about what to do in the mine. DROP MAP.

GO SOUTH into the street and GO WEST to the telegraph office.  GO WEST to the stable. GO WEST further on the road and then GO WEST once more to a fork in the road. GO SOUTH to the edge of a ravine where you can see mountains in the distance. If you want to ENTER RIDGE you can see it’s covered with sagebrush and tumbleweed. BURN TUMBLEWEED and ENTER RIDGE to go into the ravine. You can now see the entrance of a mine.

TAKE CHARCOAL and ENTER MINE. It’s very dark in here. LIGHT MATCH and for a moment you can see a silver bullet and a way down. TAKE BULLET and GO DOWN. Again LIGHT MATCH to find an unlit candle and a path south. TAKE CANDLE and LIGHT CANDLE. You can now safely GO SOUTH. Bit random: DIG ROOF to find a gold nugget. TAKE NUGGET and GO NORTH and GO UP  and GO UP again to the entrance of the mine. GO UP once more to the ridge at the ravine and GO NORTH back to the fork in the road.

DROP SHOVEL and DROP CHARCOAL and then GO EAST back into town. GO EAST once more to the stable and ENTER STABLE. There’s a pile of manure and a stall. ENTER STALL and TAKE HORSESHOE that’s here. GO SOUTH back to the stable and GO SOUTH again back to the street.

GO EAST in the street to the  telegraph office and GO EAST again to the dry-goods store. ENTER STORE and DROP BULLET and DROP NUGGET. With your treasures deposited, GO NORTH to leave the store and outside DROP CANDLE. From here GO EAST to jail. The key should be here so TAKE KEY and USE HORSESHOE to unlock jail. ENTER JAIL and find a derringer. TAKE DERRINGER and UNLOCK DOOR then DROP KEY since you don’t need it anymore. ENTER DOOR into the cell.

TAKE HAMMER and GO NORTH to leave the cell. GO NORTH into the street and DROP DERRINGER here for now. We’ll pick it up later. GO WEST to the saloon and GO WEST again to the hotel. GO WEST once more to the stable. ENTER STABLE and ENTER STALL to find ‘Ole Paint, the horse. MOUNT HORSE to find the silver spurs so TAKE SPURS.

SPUR HORSE and you’re thrown down into a pile of manure. GET UP from the pile and ENTER STALL again.  The horse has kicked a hole in the wall. ENTER HOLE into the store room where there’s a keg of nails. EMPTY KEG and TAKE NAILS, then GO NORTH back to the stall.

SHOE HORSE, then DROP HAMMER and MOUNT HORSE. To get the horse moving you need to say a magic word so SAY GIDDYAP and the horse will take you to a teepee in the canyon. ENTER TEEPEE to find more treasure: TAKE NECKLACE and TAKE TOM. From here you can only GO NORTH but then you’re stuck. There’s nowhere to go.

BEAT TOM and an Indian ghost will appear. SAY HOW to Geronimo and you’ll end up back in the pile of manure. GET UP and GO SOUTH into the street. GO EAST into the street and GO EAST again to the dry-goods store. ENTER STORE and DROP NECKLACE (funny this doesn’t show in your inventory), DROP TOM and DROP SPURS.

GO NORTH to return to the street, then GO WEST to the hotel, GO WEST to the stable and GO WEST to the road. GO WEST once more to the fork. TAKE SHOVEL and TAKE  CHARCOAL, then GO NORTH into the field. DIG to find some yellow powder. TAKE POWDER and GO SOUTH to the fork in the road.  GO EAST into the road, then GO EAST again to the stable. ENTER STABLE to the manure pile.

DIG MANURE to find white crystals. TAKE CRYSTALS and ENTER STALL and ENTER HOLE. The keg is still here. MIX GUNPOWDER and then FILL KEG. When asked with what: WITH GUNPOWDER. TAKE KEG and from here GO NORTH to the stall and GO SOUTH to the stable, then GO SOUTH again to the street. GO EAST to the telegraph office and ENTER OFFICE.

DROP KEG  (do not tap the key anymore, you’ll blow up!) and GO SOUTH back into the street. Now ENTER HOTEL and GO EAST to find the bell again. RING BELL and a bed will appear. ENTER BED and go to SLEEP.

Once you’re refreshed, GET UP and MOVE BED. Underneath you’ll find a roll of tape. TAKE TAPE and GO WEST into the lobby. GO COUNTER to find a sign and a cashbox behind it. TAKE CASHBOX and GO NORTH back to the lobby. GO NORTH again into the street and GO EAST to the saloon. ENTER SALOON and if you want to look behind the mirror, TAPE MIRROR and BREAK MIRROR. This will reveal a hole in the wall.

DROP TAPE and ENTER HOLE into the hidden office.  TAKE BOARD that’s in the room and GO EAST to return to the saloon. GO SOUTH into the street and ENTER STORE across the street. DROP CASHBOX and DROP BOARD. Did you hear that voice yesterday about not passing go and not collecting $200? So if you PASS GO, you’ll collect $200 as well.

GO NORTH to the street and GO WEST to the hotel, the GO WEST again to the stable and GO WEST once more to the road. GO WEST a final time to reach the fork in the road and from here GO SOUTH to the ridge above the ravine.

JUMP RAVINE and GO WEST onto a mountain trail to a line shack. ENTER SHACK to find a telegraph tap and when you TAP KEY you’ll set off the gunpowder on the other end. LOOK FLOOR to see a loose plank and TAKE PLANK to create a hole in the floor. ENTER HOLE to  get into the cellar.

DROP PLANK and TAKE PELTS, then GO UP again to the shack. GO SOUTH onto the mountain trail and GO EAST back to the ravine. JUMP RAVINE again back to the other side and GO NORTH to the fork in the road.

GO EAST onto the road and GO EAST again to the stable. If you GO EAST once more, you’ll reach the hotel but there’s no telegraph office anymore. There is an open safe though. LOOK SAFE to find the bag of gold dust so TAKE BAG and GO EAST to the saloon. GO EAST to jail and TAKE DERRINGER, then GO EAST once more to the road. GO EAST a final time to Boot Hill and find a rattlesnake. SHOOT SNAKE and once it’s gone, DIG and open a grave.

ENTER GRAVE and TAKE COIN that’s hidden here. Ignore the worm. GO UP out of the grave and GO WEST into the road. GO WEST again to jail and GO WEST once more to the saloon. ENTER STORE and  DROP DERRINGER. Then DROP COIN and DROP PELTS. Finally DROP BAG of gold dust.

GO NORTH to leave the store and TAKE CANDLE. Now you need to WAIT until it’s getting dark. ENTER SALOON and WAIT until sunset. LIGHT MATCH so you can see a ghostly square dance going on. DANCE, still in the dark, to win a prize. Now you can LIGHT CANDLE which will scare away the dancers.

GO SOUTH to leave the saloon and ENTER STORE. One final time DROP CUP and finish the game with SCORE.

Speed

[Note: this is the ‘speed’ walkthrough. All actions are compact and make probably no sense since you’re not looking, not reading and not finding any clues. This solutions will give you 50 bonus points in 220 moves.]

GO WEST to the saloon and ENTER STORE. From this location GET COMPASS and GET SHOVEL and GET MATCHES. To leave the store GO NORTH and GO WEST, then ENTER OFFICE.  Inside, MOVE SAFE and CONNECT WIRES to activate the telegraph. TAP KEY to get the message in morse that reads ‘shake topper’. GO SOUTH  back to the street and GO WEST to the stable. ENTER STABLE and ENTER STALL.

EXAMINE COMPASS to realize the horseshoe here is magnetic. DROP COMPASS and TAKE HORSESHOE.  From here GO SOUTH to leave the stall, GO SOUTH to leave the stable and GO EAST to the hotel.  GO EAST to the saloon and GO EAST a final time to jail. OPEN DOOR and when asked with what, answer WITH HORSESHOE. Depending on the situation in the game, the following actions are available:

1:  If a bell has rung:

GO WEST to the saloon and ENTER SALOON. There will be a piano player and when you APPLAUD, the ghost will disappear. OPEN PIANO to look inside and READ MAP. From here GO SOUTH to leave the saloon, GO EAST to the barbershop. ENTER BARBERSHOP and SHAKE HAT (remember the morse code?) A key will fall out so TAKE KEY and GO SOUTH to leave the shop again. 

ENTER JAIL and OPEN DOOR. You can now DROP KEY. From here ENTER DOOR and TAKE HAMMER.  Now GO NORTH back to jail and GO NORTH back to the street. GO WEST to the saloon. [Go to continue].

2: If the bell has not rung yet:

ENTER BARBERSHOP and SHAKE HAT (remember the morse code?) A key will fall out so TAKE KEY and GO SOUTH to leave the shop again.

2a: If the bell has now rung:

GO WEST and  ENTER SALOON There will be a piano player and when you APPLAUD, the ghost will disappear. OPEN PIANO to look inside and READ MAP. Now GO SOUTH back to the street. GO EAST and ENTER JAIL and OPEN DOOR. You can now DROP KEY. From here ENTER DOOR and TAKE HAMMER.  Now GO NORTH back to jail and GO NORTH back to the street. GO WEST to the saloon. [Go to continue].

2b:  If the bell still hasn’t rung: 

ENTER JAIL and OPEN DOOR. You can now DROP KEY. From here ENTER DOOR and TAKE HAMMER.  Now GO NORTH back to jail and GO NORTH back to the street. GO WEST to the saloon.

3: The bell must have rung by now:

ENTER SALOON There will be a piano player and when you APPLAUD, the ghost will disappear. OPEN PIANO to look inside and READ MAP. Now GO SOUTH back to the street.

Continue:

GO WEST to the hotel and GO WEST to the stable. GO WEST onto the road and GO WEST once more to  the fork in the road. From here GO SOUTH to the ledge above the ravine and ENTER RAVINE.  You can’t because sagebrush is blocking your path so LIGHT BRUSH and ENTER RAVINE again.

ENTER MINE where it’s very dark. LIGHT MATCH to see the path and GO DOWN into the mine. LIGHT MATCH again to find a candle. TAKE CANDLE and LIGHT CANDLE so you’ll be able to see where you’re going.

GO SOUTH further into the mine and DIG ROOF. A gold nugget will appear so TAKE NUGGET and GO NORTH.  From here GO UP and GO UP again to leave the mine. DROP NUGGET and TAKE CHARCOAL.   To leave the ravine, GO UP and GO NORTH to the fork in the road. GO NORTH again to a field. DIG here to find yellow powder. TAKE POWDER and  GO SOUTH back to the fork in the road.

GO EAST to the road and GO EAST again to the stable. ENTER STABLE and DIG MANURE to find white crystals. MIX GUNPOWDER. If the candle is still lit, UNLIGHT CANDLE first, otherwise just  DROP CANDLE . ENTER STALL  and MOUNT PAINT. You’ll see some spurs here so TAKE SPURS and SPUR PAINT. You’ll be thrown off and end up in the pile of manure. GET UP and ENTER STALL again where you can now see a hole kicked in the wall.

ENTER HOLE and TAKE KEG with nails. Now GO NORTH back to the stall. EMPTY KEG and SHOE PAINT. You can now MOUNT PAINT properly and when you SAY GIDDYUP Paint will take you for a ride.  ENTER TEEPEE and TAKE TOM and TAKE NECKLACE. To return to the civilised world BEAT TOM and SAY HOW. You’ll end up in…. the pile of manure. GET UP and FILL KEG. When asked with what, WITH GUNPOWDER.

DROP HAMMER and TAKE KEG, then TAKE CANDLE. To leave the stable, GO SOUTH and in the street GO EAST to the hotel. ENTER OFFICE and DROP KEG. To leave GO SOUTH back to the street.

GO EAST to the saloon and GO EAST again to jail. ENTER JAIL and TAKE DERRINGER.  Return to the street with GO NORTH and GO EAST onto the road. GO EAST again to find a snake.  SHOOT SNAKE to get rid of it and DIG a grave. DROP SHOVEL and ENTER GRAVE. You’ll find a coin so TAKE COIN and KILL WORM.

GO UP out of the grave and GO WEST into the road. GO WEST to jail and GO WEST once more to the saloon. ENTER STORE and READ SIGN. So this is where all treasure needs to go. Let’s drop off the first load: DROP SPUR, DROP NECKLACE, DROP TOM, DROP COIN and DROP DERRINGER. Then GO NORTH back into the street. 

ENTER SALOON and TAKE BELL from here. GO SOUTH back into the street and GO WEST to the hotel. ENTER HOTEL and ENTER COUNTER. You’ll see a cashbox here. TAKE CASHBOX and GO NORTH back to the lobby. GO EAST into the hotel. RING BELL and a bed will appear. MOVE BED to find a roll of tape underneath so TAKE TAPE.

GO WEST into the lobby and GO NORTH to leave the hotel. In the street GO WEST to the stable, then GO WEST onto the road. GO WEST once more to the fork in the road and GO SOUTH to the ledge above the ravine. ENTER RAVINE and TAKE NUGGET. From here you can ENTER MINE and TAKE BULLET, then GO UP to leave the mine again. GO UP to the ledge of the ravine and GO NORTH to the fork in the road. GO EAST onto the road and GO EAST to the stable. GO EAST again to the hotel and GO EAST once more to the saloon.   

ENTER SALOON and TAPE MIRROR. You can now safely BREAK MIRROR and DROP TAPE.  There was a hole behind the mirror. ENTER HOLE and GET BOARD that you’ll find here.  GO EAST to leave the hole again. It should be dark by now. If not, INVENTORY until it is. 

When the sun has set, LIGHT MATCH to see the ghostly square dance and DANCE. You’ll win a silver cup! LIGHT CANDLE and GO SOUTH to leave the saloon. GO WEST to the hotel and ENTER HOTEL. From here GO EAST to your bed and ENTER BED. If the candle is still burning, UNLIGHT CANDLE and SLEEP.

The next morning GET UP and DROP CANDLE, then DROP MATCHES. From here GO WEST to the lobby and  GO NORTH into the street. GO WEST to the stable and GO WEST onto the road. GO WEST once more to the fork in the road, then GO SOUTH to the ledge above the ravine. JUMP RAVINE to the other side and GO WEST to a mountain trail with a wire shack.

ENTER SHACK and LOOK FLOOR. There’s a loose plank. TAKE PLANK and DROP PLANK, then ENTER HOLE you created.  TAKE PELTS that were stored here and GO UP back to the shack. TAP KEY to detonate the keg with gunpowder on the other end. GO SOUTH to leave the shack and GO EAST back to the ravine, JUMP RAVINE back to the other side and GO NORTH to the  fork in the road. GO EAST onto the road and GO EAST again to stable. GO EAST once more to where the telegraph office once stood. There’s now only an open safe. LOOK SAFE and TAKE BAG with gold dust.  GO EAST to the saloon and ENTER STORE. A final drop off: DROP BULLET, DROP NUGGET, DROP CASHBOX, DROP BOARD, DROP CUP, DROP PELTS and DROP BAG. One final thing. When you were in jail several times, you got a message about not passing go and not collecting $200? So if you PASS GO, you’ll collect $200 as well.  Type SCORE to end the game:
